The RASIT Executive Board adopted the 2017-2022 “Science Princess” Global Campaign Strategic Framework and aligns the yearly work plans and budgets according to the following three Strategic Objectives.
Strategic Objectives
Knowledge
Increase access to and use of knowledge and innovations to enhance policy, service delivery and financing mechanisms, addressing key constraints to equality and parity in science.
Advocacy
Identify and mobilize additional resources for the Campaign through partner engagement and by maintaining visibility of women and girls in science issues in policy, development and media meetings, forums, conferences, and any other related events.
Accountability
Promote accountability for resources and results, leading to better information to monitor the Campaign’s results and outcomes, as well as better and more systematic tracking of how resource commitments are actually allocated.
Operational Principles The Campaign structures its work plan activities around four operational principles, namely:
being a convenor,
being partner-centric,
being driven by organization / country demand and regional priorities; and
promoting the “Continuum of Care” approach, to improve the status of women and girls in science.
2022 WORK PLANS
The work plan structure was developed to form the basis of a results framework that will underpin and guide the Campaign’s work between 2017 and 2022. Building on the Royal Academy of Science International Trust (RASIT)’s achievements, the 2022 work plan is structured around five outcomes, three special project and one cross-cutting activity, which will enable the Campaign to make significant contribution to achieving its Vision and Mission, as set out below:
Outcome 1: Maximize the representation of women in science in policy making bodies and promoting them to greater roles above the current baseline at the United Nations and its entities, the European Union, other Inter-Governmental Organizations, and in government politics and legislation. Outcome 2: Increase the representation and participation of women in science in all forms of media. Outcome 3: Developing and reforming science curriculum and increasing the number of women who are science teachers. Outcome 4: Increase the number of women employed in science and for increased participation and promotion in the private sector. Outcome 5: Create internship and scholarship opportunities for young women in science in private sector and academic institutions.
Special Projects:
Global Fund for Women and Girls in Science.
Esraa El Bably Fund for Deaf Women and Girls
International Directory of Women in Science
Cross-cutting Project:
Commission on Women and Girls in Science.
Across the agreed outcomes and projects, the work plan is structured around delivering five priority areas of focus in 2017-2022, including:
Influence achieving the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by engaging women in science with policy-makers.
Highest possible political commitment to women and girls in science and maintained in the years to 2030 and beyond.
Ensure increased media coverage through the use of livestreaming events surrounding the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
Increase the participation of Women in Science at the United Nations ECOSOC Annual Science, Technology and Innovation Forum, the annual session of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development, and other relevant events.
Strengthen partner engagement and alignment nationally, regionally, globally.
The Campaign operates along the entire Continuum of Care, which is its key value added. As it is not possible for the Campaign to engage in equal measure on all issues along the Continuum of Care, the priority areas could provide a useful focus for the Campaign’s activities going forward; however, other emerging priorities may also be included.
The implementation of the work plan will be coordinated and facilitated by Coordinators supported by the Secretariat. The Coordinators are appointed based on criteria agreed by the Secretariat, such as technical expertise, strength of networks and ability to dedicate time towards these tasks.
